Happy New Year 2015 and a January Garden Tour
Happy New Year and Best Wishes for 2015 my blogging friends!!
My holiday break from my job is quickly coming to an end…boo and yeah!!! It’s a mixed bag of feelings but I am rolling with it. Mixed bag because, while my job is very exciting and rewarding for me, at the same time it can be very demanding of my time, even overwhelming at times, because of all the things I must learn and do right here and now… (I’ve started a new career). It has been all consuming, blurring the boundaries of work life and family time, which brings me to my word of the New Year 2015….Balance!!!
I function at my prime when I have balance…balance of my work life and my personal life. Sure, at times work can be very demanding of my time and of my mental and physical energy, therefore, I want to do a better job at managing what I like to call my ‘bounce back time’, so with that said, my goals and the progress of my goals may be shared here on my blog from time to time, in the hopes that I can balance the two better this year than I did last year.
I will share some of those goals with you later once I have them all figured out a bit more.
Now for that ‘beginning of the month’ January Garden Tour:
Our lettuce mix is ready to be harvested but I want to buy a food scale before I harvest it, in hopes to keep track of the amount of food we produce from our backyard vegetable garden. 2015 Garden and Food Goal: track by weighing, how much food we produce from our veggie garden this year. 🙂
So excited to see our sugar snap peas have blooms. Happy dance!!! The little pea pods will be forming very soon. 2015 Garden Goal: plant more peas and beans. Note to self: get to planting more peas ASAP!!! Time is ticking and these little pea guys love cooler temps and here in southeastern Louisiana cooler temps have a very small window of time!!!
Emerson aka hubby transplanted his spinach seedlings in our onion and garlic bed. Yummy!! I can hardly wait to eat fresh spinach salads. 2015 Garden Goal: to keep track of planting and harvest dates for our gardening journal. I have wanted to start a gardening journal for years, but never followed through with that task….until now!! Happy Dance 🙂
Our pallet on wheels hot house of basil, bell peppers and tomato plants needs to be cleaned up a bit and I have plans to move a few plants indoors for the rest of January. 2015 Garden Goal: set up an indoor space for the basil plants and sugar snap peas. I adore the smell of fresh basil, so moving the basil plants indoors will be a sweet treat for me. 🙂 Happy Dance for the pending spring planting and growing season. 🙂
More garden pics to come but for now I must sign off to complete a early afternoon work deadline that must be completed TODAY!!! No wiggle room for this deadline. ha ha.

Balance is an excellent word to start the new year on . For me it’s very applicable too. Having my day job, kids involved in youth sports AND urban farming is a lot to manage – so , I hear ya ! Have a great year and I hope you find Balance 🙂

The weighing of food produced is a great idea! This interests me a lot as well as yields per square feet.

I enjoy the smell of fresh basil too! Nothing quite like it. Your goals of weighing the produce and keeping a garden journal got me all excited. Even growing more peas and beans spoke to me. I can’t get enough of those. Love the pallet hot house!
Thank you Shawn. Yes the pallet hot house came about bc I was tired of moving the seedlings to the sunny spots of our patio, then hubby had to put the hoops and plastic it on it. I really believe covering it helps heat the soil up in the winter months so the seeds will germinate. Fixing to clean it off for our onion and pea seeds. fingers crossed. 🙂 I am so excited for you and your hubby…thank you for sharing your journey with us.

I hope you find your Balance this year. Work and home life can be so hard to juggle, so Balance is something I’m always trying to achieve. The garden really helps, I’m sure you agree! Love your hothouse! Would you mind if I copied?
