My Zone 8 April 2015 Gardening To Do List

Good Morning my sweet gardening peeps, hope everyone had a wonderful Monday.  Since this week is my Easter break week from school I spent most of Monday doing some deep cleaning and finally completed our laundry.  Woo Hoo happy dance.

All day I had thoughts of gardening dancing through my head but I knew all to well if I went outside and put my hands on a hose or gloves there would be no turning back until the light of the moon!!!  I do have plans to be out and about very soon but I must remain focused on cleaning my house and catching up on some other neglected tasks.

  1. I’ve tried two methods with mixed success for the ants here. Boiling water (stab the mound first to get them riled up) over and over again. Or an organic pesticide that reminds me of broken up potato chips…and the name escapes my sleep-needing-memory. Hold onto that thought…

    1. will work on the ant kill project this weekend, thank you so much for your help. 🙂
trying to knock some of the hills back before the hubs goes for the chemicals. we have been chemical free for nearly a decade. 🙂

      1. I hear you! Our neighbors are chemical friendly and it saddens me. It’s also odd, because they don’t garden and our lawn looks much better than theirs does and I never “weed n feed.” I just de-stress by taking my hori hori to any thistle or ripping crab grass out by the handful!

    2. http://www.cleanairgardening.com/fireantkiller.html Is the packaging/brand I used previously. I had the best luck with hitting as many mounds as I could so that they didn’t just move back in from other spots. Anything with spinosad supposedly will do the trick, but I haven’t tried the other delivery methods.
Also I vaguely recall reading that if you keep it moist they won’t move in. Of course here that’s hard to do with responsible watering regimens…good luck!

      1. oh thank you so much plumdirt. Yes I can water them out of my pots but they will end up out and about. glad to have them out of our garden beds for now. Thanks for the link
