Initially, I like to start my ancestral searches with the males of the family. I often find researching for the females to be more difficult because of the marriages. So…. I start with my third great-grandfather Wiley Burnett 1828-1889 of South Carolina. Do you care to guess what happens next? His research hits a big fat brick wall!!
Quickly I make a detour around Wiley’s brick wall and search for his wife, Mrs. Jane KENNEDY Burnett 1825-1897. This is when I start to realize I have some deep southern roots in South Carolina! Both the Burnett and Kennedy families are from there.
My third great-grandmother Jane Kennedy was the wife of Wiley Burnett and the daughter of Isaac Kennedy 1803-1866 and his wife Sarah Henderson 1807-1838.
